Communications Director – Washington D.C.
Overview: Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin is seeking a highly experienced Communications Director with a track record of leading high performing teams and powerful communication strategies. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and working closely with the Senator-elect, the Communications Director will ensure that constituents, key stakeholders and the broader public are fully and transparently informed about the Senator-elect’s work for the people of Michigan.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Communications strategy: Developing and driving an ambitious media strategy for the Senator-elect across all forms of communication. Providing counsel to the Senator-elect, Chief of Staff, and other senior leaders that reflects sound judgment, tactical acumen, and an understanding of the relationship between communications and policy outcomes.
- Media relationships: Manage high-level relationships with national media, on behalf of the Senator-elect.
- Leadership: Managing a high op-tempo communications team across the Washington D.C. and Michigan offices.
Candidate qualifications:
- Deep and wide trust-based relationships with Washington D.C. and national journalists.
- Outstanding skills in written and oral communication. Substantial experience serving as an on-the-record spokesperson.
- Experience working in an extremely fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record of managing high-performing communications teams.
- The experience and judgment to offer advice and counsel on complex issues.
- A keen understanding of how to operate in a changing digital landscape.
- The ability to translate policy debates into plain prose, to effectively communicate with the people of Michigan.
Location and work environment: This role is in the Washington D.C. office. Candidates should expect a fast paces, results oriented work environment.
