Press Secretary – Washington D.C.

Overview: The office of Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin is seeking an experienced, accomplished press secretary to serve in the Washington, D.C., office. The Press Secretary will oversee all media relations in Washington, D.C. Under the supervision of the Communications Director and in coordination with Michigan-based communications staff, the Press Secretary will ensure seamless, responsive and effective press operations in support of the Senator-elect’’s policy agenda.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating response to media queries and interview requests in the Washington office.
  • Developing prep materials to successfully execute the Senator-elect’s media appearances.
  • Working with the legislative staff, state staff and within the communications team to develop and execute media strategies in support of the Senator-elect’s legislative goals.
  • Producing news releases, fact sheets, legislative summaries and other media materials.
  • Overseeing media monitoring to ensure the Senator-elect and staff are fully aware of media coverage relevant to the office’s work.

Candidate qualifications

  • Deep, trust-based relationships with key media, including print, online and TV writers, producers and bookers.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to serve as a trustworthy and effective on-the-record spokesperson.
  • Ability to think and act at the speed of modern journalism.
  • Outstanding judgment.
  • Knowledge and experience to advise the Senator-elect on media interaction.
  • Ability to enable media coverage that drives policy achievements that serve the people of Michigan.

Location and work environment: This role is in the Washington D.C. office. Candidates should expect a fast paced, results oriented work environment.
