Legislative Assistant – Economic Policy – Washington D.C.
Overview: The Office of Senator Elissa Slotkin is seeking a legislative assistant to lead her economic policy work.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Research: This position involves conducting in-depth research on various policy issues, analyzing legislation, drafting memos, speeches, and other materials, and providing strategic advice to the Senator on upcoming bills, votes, and policy initiatives.
- Legislation: The Legislative Assistant will work closely with relevant committee staff to craft and advance legislation. The Legislative Assistant will closely monitors hearings and relevant developments in the Senator’s areas of focus, ensuring that the Senator is well-informed and prepared to make decisions. The Legislative Assistant will also engage with constituents, stakeholders, and advocacy groups to gather input and feedback, addressing concerns and shaping policy positions accordingly.
- Representation of the Senator: The Legislative Assistant will at times represent the Senator in meetings and attend hearings or briefings on her behalf.
- Internal collaboration: The Legislative Assistant will actively collaborate with other staff members, government agencies, and advocacy groups to advance the Senator legislative agenda.
Candidate qualifications
- Proven economic policy expertise and a deep knowledge of the legislative process.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written – and the ability to deliver a concise, strategic verbal briefing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of the legislative process, include formal and informal processes for bringing legislation from conception to enactment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, stay updated on policy developments, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team are also crucial for success in this role.
Location and work environment: This role is in the Washington D.C. office. Candidates should expect a fast paced, results oriented work environment.
