National Security Legislative Aide – Washington D.C.
Overview: The Office of Senator Elissa Slotkin is seeking a talented Legislative Aide to play a critical role in supporting her legislative agenda in national security and foreign affairs. The Legislative Aide’s role in supporting the team’s mission will be to perform policy research and analysis and policy-focused constituent communications.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Senator’s National Security Advisor and legislative staff in their work conceiving, drafting, introducing and passing legislation.
- Contribute research and analysis on pending committee and floor votes.
- Attend and monitor committee hearings, outside research and writing, stakeholder interest and public opinion in assigned areas of public policy.
- Assist in tracking constituent input on legislative and policy issues and in developing constituent communications – including letters and emails – that help inform constituents on the Senator’s policy positions and legislative agenda.
- Coordinate with other departments to track and ensure timely responses to constituent correspondence on legislative and policy issues.
Candidate qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written – and the ability to deliver a concise, strategic verbal briefing.
- The ability to contribute to national security and foreign policy policy for a member with a career background in national security.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of the legislative process, include formal and informal processes for bringing legislation from conception to enactment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, stay updated on policy developments, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
