Staff Writer – Michigan
Overview: Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin is seeking a talented, evocative, detail oriented staff writer for her Michigan office to contribute to a wide variety of public-facing written products. The Staff Writer will be responsible for conceiving and executing high-quality written statements, letters, and other materials that capture the awesomeness of Michigan and Michiganders in the Senator-elect’s unique voice.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the significant, high volume constituent notes and commendations program.
- Assisting the Senator-elect in producing written materials for a wide variety of fora.
- Drafting press releases and social media posts for the comms team, as assigned.
- Assisting the Michigan and D.C. communications, as assigned.
- Maintaining an organized archive of public-facing communications in coordination with the D.C. press assistant.
Candidate qualifications
- Written communications skills of the highest quality.
- The ability to craft a story.
- The ability to identify people, places and events across the state worthy of recognition from the Senator-elect in the Congressional Record or other fora.
- A meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Experience with video capturing and editing is preferred.
Location and work environment: This position is located in the state of Michigan. This is a “hybrid position” – applicants should expect that the role will require some in-person office work, with flexibility for some regular remote work.
